Cannes retains its crown at the World Travel Awards

12 December 2023

The city was crowned 'Best Global Destination for Festivals and Events' for the second consecutive time at the World Travel Awards 2023 ceremony on December 1st in Dubai.

After achieving a hat-trick as the Best European Destination in the Festivals and Events category, Cannes continues its streak on the international stage by once again winning the title of the Best Global Destination. A remarkable achievement for a French city, as emphasized by its mayor, David Lisnard: 'Never before had a French city been honored, despite multiple attempts, at these World Travel Awards, which are truly the Oscars of tourism. This global title is a genuine reference, recognized worldwide, and we should not trivialize this accolade.'.

A global double that seems well-deserved in light of the exceptional event season in Cannes in 2023. The Palais des Festivals de Cannes, presided over by Jean-Michel Arnaud, hosted a record-breaking program this year with 72 professional events (61 in 2022, 51 in 2019), totaling 320 operating days. These were marked by highlights that attracted professionals and tourists, beyond the International Film Festival. Examples include the strong return of MIDEM, the organization of three new medical congresses, the new format of the Festival des Jeux, and the Cannes Yachting Festival.
